Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures

Student Hours

Students standing in front of busStudents may enter the building between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. There is no adult supervision for students prior to 7:30 a.m. We will supervise students who arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. in the cafeteria until it is time to report to their classrooms. Our school day officially begins at 8:00 a.m.; therefore, any students arriving after 8:00 a.m. are tardy. A child who is consistently tardy misses vital instruction, so please strive to have your child at school on time daily. It will help students develop a positive pattern as they mature.

Morning Arrival for Car Riders

You may drop your child off at PGES (beginning at 7:30 a.m.) only at the parent drop-off loop. For student safety, please do not drop off students in the parking lot area. To facilitate the drop-off process, students should exit the vehicle on the sidewalk side. Parents should not exit the vehicle in the drop-off loop.

Walking Your Child into the Building

On occasion, parents wish to walk their children into the school building in the morning. If you need to walk your child into the school, please park in the school parking lot—not in the parent drop-off loop. All visitors must sign in and wear a visitors pass to go beyond the front office.

Notifying Staff of Changes in Afternoon Dismissal Plans

If you need to alter your child’s typical dismissal plan, please fill out the transportation note. If an emergency arises and you need to make a last-minute change, please call the school office at 365-4700 to alert the school of the change and whether you will be providing written directions for the change by e-mail or fax (804) 365-4717 for all transportation changes. If you prefer e-mail, please send your changes to Lori Martin.

Early Dismissal for Appointments

If your child has a medical appointment that requires early dismissal, please sign the student out in the front office. We’ll call your child to the office for dismissal once you are present to maximize their instructional time in the classroom.

Afternoon Dismissal for Car Riders

If you plan to pick your child up from school at dismissal, please do so in the gymnasium between 2:25 and 2:35 p.m. If someone other than a parent is picking up the student, a parent must contact the front office to give permission by providing the person’s name. Anyone picking up a child, including parents, must show a photo I.D.
